Markus brings an outside perspective, founded on a solid scientific base, to the cannabis field. An organic chemist by training, Markus took the plunge into the cannabis world by establishing a testing laboratory. He also built an extraction facility for large volume supercritical CO2 extraction. Markus is deeply interested in the molecular properties of the plant, including testing, extracting, and the transformation of active ingredients. Born in Germany, Markus took a very international route in the pursuit of his chemistry doctorate. His various stops around the globe include undergraduate studies at Imperial College, London, research stays in Germany and Singapore, a Ph.D. at ETHZ in Switzerland, and, finally, postdoctoral studies at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego.

Christian Figueroa

Christian has over fifteen years of experience in the fields of geology, surveying, and environmental assessments.  He has his Bachelors in Geology from Humboldt State University and his Masters in Geology from West Virginia University with a focus in biogeochemistry and hydrology.  Christian currently works as a Project Engineering Geologist and Permitting Specialist for Trinity Valley Consulting Engineers in addition to having his own consulting firm that specializes in cannabis-related site development and permitting.  As a Trinity County resident, Christian knows well the challenges faced by the cannabis cultivators as well as the environmental impacts caused by the cannabis industry and can help Sensi Valley work towards finding win-win solutions.

Dr. Benjamin LaBrot
Founder & CEO of the Floating Doctors

Dr. LaBrot is the founder and CEO of the Floating Doctors medical team, as well as a professor of Global Health at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.  Originally from Southern California, Dr. LaBrot trained and qualified as a physician at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland and practiced as a hospitalist there until returning to the United States to found Floating Doctors in 2009. Floating Doctors has worked to address health access inequities and improve local capacity in Haiti, Honduras and currently Panama, and to date, over 60,000 patients have received free care. Dr. LaBrot works closely with indigenous botanic medical practitioners ('curanderos') to explore new potential treatments, and is particularly interested in bioprospecting for diffuse-acting, plant-based remedies to integrate with western medical practice.
